Quick Beauty Tip

March 03, 2017

You, me and everyone I know does NOT have time for a zit! So let's get straight to the quick beauty tip.  You can make an unwanted zit less noticeable instantly with an ice cube. Just place a cube on the pimple for 30 - 60 seconds, then hold a tissue dampened with eye drops or contact cleaner over it for about 3 minutes.  This causes the blood vessels below your skin to contract making a pimple less red and easing some irritation.

The beauty benifits of Vitamin C

August 17, 2015

Have you heard about beauty benefits of Vitamin C? Well hunti, you are about to hear right NOW! I recently saw a new study and had to share...

There are certain foods that can greatly help the appearance of the skin; smoothing wrinkles and fine lines and easing skin dryness. These include healthy proteins, especially oily fish like salmon, as well as quality fats like avocados, almonds and olive oil, and the vitamins A, B, C and E.

The famous Vitamin C can significantly enhance skin health and appearance and is becoming known as an anti wrinkle vitamin. It helps to increase collagen levels in the body, which is the body’s most abundant protein. Collagen acts to connect the body together and is found in skin, hair, nails, bones and muscles.

Vitamin C is not produced naturally in the body and must be obtained from sources like citrus fruits, dark leafy greens, tomatoes, berries and vitamin supplements. Collagen declines in the body after age 40 and can be depleted by a high sugar intake, fast foods and smoking.

In support of vitamin C as an anti wrinkle vitamin, a study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition announced the results of researchers from the United Kingdom. They discovered that higher vitamin C intakes were associated with a lower likelihood of a wrinkled skin appearance and skin dryness. Vitamin C majorly improved overall skin appearance in a study of 4,025 women aged 40 to 74.

In my next post, I'll discuss some amazing products such as moisturizing serums with vitamin C in it.

Well as always, I hope this helps!

DIY: Scrub that's beyond GOOD!

June 05, 2014

I was talking to one of my really good friends that I've had since 4th grade and I advised her as to what facial scrub she needs to go get it! Which is the Microdelivery by PHILOSOPHY.   BUT it's actually pretty expensive Eeeeek! :(

So then I thought about it and remembered there is an amazing scrub that is literally right in your kitchen and can be done for free!  Yasssss hunti I said FREE!

To create the scrub, just mix together half a cup of coarse brown sugar with a tablespoon of honey, a little olive oil, and 1/4 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, then apply all over your body/ FACE and rinse. The scrub not only smells delicious, but leaves your skin feeling ultra-smooth.

However if your skin is super sensitive I recommend you just mix of the brown sugar or Raw sugar with a teaspoon of your current cleanser.

Coconut Oil

A few reasons why Coconut oil is a MUST!

April 11, 2014

Honey Chile let me tell you one of the things that make me smile nowadays is Coconut Oil... well Extra Virgin coconut oil that is (ECVO). Coconut oil is one of the healthiest oil in the world.

Coconut Oil very good at hydrating skin. It sinks in deep, conditions, moisturizes, and softens skin. It isn’t pumped full of water or petroleum byproducts like many commercial cleansers or lotions either. Skin is kept clean by an oily substance called sebum. When sebum mixes with too much dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells it can clog pores and lead to acne and other blemishes and honey who wants that?!!
I love the fact that Coconut oil naturally clears away dirt, grime, and dead skin cells. It even has some antibacterial properties, killing off harmful bacteria. Coconut oil is the all-in-one natural solution to all your skin problems! I know what ya thinking... Why didn't unknown this earlier in life.  Don't worry, better late than never.  But wait there is more...

EVCO soothes bug bites, speeds healing, helps with rashes, gets rid of flaking skin, softens and shrinks wrinkles, protects against sun damage, keeps tans longer, acts as an antioxidant to prevent cellular aging, and so much more. It removes makeup easily and even makes the perfect massage oil.

Please make sure your EVCO is organic/pure! USDA approved!

My EVCO is by Better Body foods... Stay tuned because my next post will be why EVCO is great for your hair!

Home Remedy

Baking Soda + Honey + Water = Face Brightening Cleanser

July 07, 2013

Okay fresh face beauties here is a good ol' home remedy that I haven't giving you guys in a while...
Get you some money and throw in a little baking soda for a scrub.  Doing this helps boost circulation but doesn’t tear off your top layer of skin.
Here’s how to do it: Combine one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of baking soda in your palm. Rub them together with a few drops of water and then massage gently in circular motions on your face. Let sit for a minute then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
I promise if you do this you have beautiful glowing skin.

Pores

Q and A:

April 18, 2013

Hey yall, Here is a question from one of my fresh faced beauties…

Q: Hey Monica!! What can I do to minimize the look of my pores? And what is a good face washing regiment? ie how often should I exfoliate, do facial mask, etc. I have combination skin which on any given day can be more oily or dry depending

A: When it comes to your pores there is a pretty simple answ er for that. Just keep up with your daily skin care routine. I say this because as you get older, oils and skin cells can build up in your pores, causing them to expand. Which brings me to your next question…

A good skin care routine for combination skin includes…

-Use a cream mild Facial cleanser (If you wear makeup then use a cleanser that can also take off makeup such as the facial cleanser/ makeup remover by Neutrogena Naturals)

-Use an Oil free, lightweight facial moisturizer ( I use a moisturizer called Dew by DDF

-Exfoliate once a week using a scrub such as the purifying pore scrub by Neutrogena Naturals

I use a different facial cleanser when I have a few breakouts I want to quickly diminish. For that I use the Eccential-C Cleanser by Murad. It has glycolic, and rice amino acid along with vitamin, A, C and E to quickly Zap any bumps. Apply it on DRY face and let it sit for like 3 minutes, and then wash it off. The next day I’m usually happy with my results and then I go back to my regular mild cleanser due to me not being a fan of using a glycolic every day.

Well as always, I hope this helps! Please follow me via Instagram @_beautyexpert and “like” me on facebook EXPERT OF BEAUTY

Q and A

Q & A

March 13, 2013

Ok yall, here is a question from one of my fresh faced BEAUTIES...

Q: "Ok im going through some face breakouts and im going crazy!!! Loll. I never had to deal with this n i dont know what to try. Im breakin out around my jaw line, a little on my cheeks and on my neck..what can i use?? I have sensitive skin."

A: Hey hun, What I am going to recommend is that you use a cleanser and OIL-FREE moisturizer from brand called Simple. Simple has no dyes, artificial perfumes or harsh irritants that can upset your skin. Instead, just their purest possible skin loving ingredients with added vitamins, for natural healthy-looking skin. Offering a skincare range suitable for all skin types - especially sensitive skin. I also recommend that you exfoliate ONCE a week using the Simple facial scrub. Exfoliation is considered one of the most important techniques that you can perform on your skin to resolve certain skin problems as well as to achieve healthy and glowing skin.

Detoxify your skin

March 08, 2013

As you may already know, EXFOLIATION is very very important to me. Exfoliation is considered one of the most important techniques that you can perform on your skin to resolve certain skin problems as well as to achieve healthy and glowing skin. If you your skin is not exfoliated and smooth, then you makeup wont look as flawless.

With that being said I have found a new beauty product that makes me smile super big!!!!! Its called "The  Oxygen Peel" by Philosophy.

I love this because it leaves my skin feeling and looking 10x better.
Everything it claim its gonna do... I REALLY DO!!!!!!
I do this oxygen peel once a week. However if you skin needs allot of love then you do it up to 3 days in a row. It comes with 10 capsules.

Its really easy to use...
step 1: break open one enzyme capsule, and pour it into the container. fill container halfway with warm water, and shake well. wait 1 minute for gel to form. gel will be lumpy in consistency. apply a thick layer to entire face; do not rinse off. step 2: apply oxygen foam directly to face, avoiding the eye area and hair line. this will become foamy as it reacts with the catalase enzyme gel. leave foam on for 1-3 minutes as tolerated. do not get near hairline or eyebrows, as bleaching may occur. step 3: remove oxygen foam based on your skin sensitivity. if sensitive (or active acne), rinse off. otherwise, use enclosed spatula to remove foam with a shaving motion, using the sharper side of the spatula. rinse. use once a week. if skin is experiencing unusual breakout, can be used three days in a row.

Quick Beauty Tip: A simple test you can do at home to see if you have surface dry skin cells on your skin is to take a piece of clear tape and apply it to the forehead. Rub it gently and remove. Look at the tape, and if there are little pieces of flaky skin, then you need to exfoliate!

Avocado

Going GREEN could be a GOOD idea!!!

February 21, 2013

Truth be told, Avocados are not really liked by me but things can change soooo fast! Avocados are  really good for you. Why you ask??, Well, Avocados have antibacterial properties that can help you skin when applied to your face. It helps clean the pore and if you skin is acnagenic and could help with inflammation as well. Avocados has been known to stimulate the growth of collagen and can keep you skin looking young!

Try Freeman Clay Facial Mask with Avocado and Oatmeal which I absolutely love or if you want you could Mash together one avocado (cut into pieces), the juice from half a fresh orange, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil. Spread evenly on your face and neck, leave on for 30 minutes, and then wash off with cold water. Please apply an oil free moisturizer once your done.

Well as always I hope this helps... Oh and don't forget to please "LIKE" me on facebook!

Oily Skin

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!!!!

October 01, 2012

Here is a QUESTION from one of my FRESH FACED DIVA's ....

Q: "I clean my face every day…DO I REALLY NEED TO EXFOLIATE?"

A: Well, honey first let me start by letting you know that even the best makeup in the world will look like dirt if it's applied on top of skin that is dry, dull, or flaky. Cleaning your face everyday is  fine but we all need to exfoliate every once in a while.  Basically the point of exfoliation is to remove dead skin cells, oil and anything extra that could be clogging your pores.

After exfoliating your face should feel smooth and look healthy. If your skin is red and irritated after exfoliation then honey STOP using whatever you was using. More importantly DO NOT EXFOLIATE EVERY DAY, JUST ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK!!!!!!

Here is 3 MUST have facial cleansers that will surely exfoliate! All three products are great for people with sensitive skin.

JUICE BEAUTY APPLE PEEL $37
This peel has fruit acids that brighten skin, and highly recommended for winter. Apply once a week to oily skin, once every two weeks to dry skin. This product contains glycolic acid, malic acid and lactic acid. Also contains aloe, which soothes and hydrates the skin.

St. Ives Timeless Daily Microdermabrasion $10
This Allure recomended product has fine mineral crystals, chamomile and vitamin E. Oh and its also easy on the pockets

Glycolic Foaming Cleanser $15
This is perfect for dull, congested skin, this lathering, deep cleanser has the exfoliating powers of Glycolic Acid to break down build-up from skins surface, reduce minor discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. Oh and did I mention that I love love love this!!!!

Well as always I hope this helps!

Did you Know?

Did you know???

August 27, 2012

Do you love your phone as much as I do??!! I take my phone with me EVERYWHERE, sad to say but hey I do! Oh and I'm sure you do too. But DID YOU KNOW your phone can cause you to have breakouts on your face? Think about it, our phones get really dirty because we lay them just about anywhere.

David Bank, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center explains that "When we talk on the phone, the warmth and moisture create a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. By constantly being on the phone, you cause acne mechanica. This is caused by not letting the pores breathe and the friction from your phone onto your face. It begins with rough and bumpy skin, and with continued irritation, it develops into inflamed pimples."

So I suggest you clean your phone with a little rubbing alcohol or Lysol disinfecting wipes at least once a day.

Oily Skin

Q & A: Oily Skin

January 26, 2012

I have recently received a question from one of my readers...

Q: I wanna know how to get rid of a shiny nose and forehead?

A: Well if your nose and forehead is shiny then that means you have oily skin. Oily skin can be a bit of a pain in the butt because having oily skin can cause acne, big pores and unwanted shine. So here is a few tips for oily skin...

-Avoid using cleansers that feel like its over drying your skin, because it will just cause your skin to produce even more oil than usual.

-You should always cleanse using a gel cleanser

-Get products that are oil-free. Which means you have to look for noncomedogenic moisturizers and sunscreen products. Oil-Free products won't clog pores.

-As for foundation Black Opal and Revlon Color Stay are great for oily skin.

-Keep oil Blotting Sheets handy in your little makeup bag. These handy sheets are used to blot away excess oil whenever you need it.

- Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer with Vitamins E & B3, Combination/Oily is a really great moisturizer to use and you can get it right from any drugstore.
Another great product is Invisible Oil blocking loose powder by Black Opal. It's lightweight, hypoallergenic and colorless loose powder, designed with unique oil blotters, helps control shine and impart a beautiful matte finish. Oh and Allure gave this product is stamp of approval!
If your oily skin is seems to be a serious issue then I suggest you talk to your dermatologist about retinoids. Retinoids can reduce production in oil glands and shrink their size. Well as always I hope this helps!

Acne

Did you know???

December 12, 2011

Do you have a pimple or two? Well don't worry jus dab some toothpaste on it....YES, I said toothpaste!

Toothpaste does wonders for your acne because it kills germs meant for teeth. When u put toothpaste on a pimple it drys it out and kills the germs.

Apply the toothpaste on your zit, for 15-20 minutes and wash it off. Or you can leave it on overnight, let a small piece of tissue cover the area you applied toothpaste too before going to sleep. Leaving the toothpaste on overnight seems to be most effective.

Well if ya ain't know, now ya do! As always I good this helps you!

Beauty Talk with Moni

Beauty Talk with Moni (Skin Care)

August 15, 2011

Yup, thats me to the left...Rocking my new do! sorry about the poor picture qaulity (took this pic with my phone)

Well anyhoo, Do you have a good skincare system/ routine? If not, you should because healthy skin is important.

So with that being said, let me tell ya my number one rule that I learned the hard way...REMOVE your makeup every night!!!! Trust me, you don't want to wake up to a nightmare of clogged pores giving you acne as a result.

Secondly, use a good cleanser on your face every morning and night. That doesn't mean you have to go out and spend top dollar on cleaners. Your local drug store probably has what you need. However if you do not have a good cleanser you can just use a gentle soap such as Dove.

You should also moisturize prior to applying your makeup and before you go nite-nite.

Another good rule is to ALWAYS apply make-up to a fresh and clean face. If you don't, your make-up will not look so good as it should.

Well as always I really hope this helps...tootaloo!!!
